Do you live in Frankfurt, prefer to study in English and are registered with the Agentur für Arbeit or the Jobcenter? Then this page is for you. Cybersteps runs a cybersecurity Weiterbildung that is taught in English (or German), online and full-time. It takes around 6 to 14 months, depending on the chosen modules, and prepares you for CompTIA and Microsoft certifications. With a Bildungsgutschein it is free if you are eligible. Can I do a cybersecurity Weiterbildung in English with a Bildungsgutschein?

Absolutely! You can use a Bildungsgutschein in English in Frankfurt. Cybersteps and the program are AZAV-certified, and this certification is what a provider needs before the Agentur für Arbeit or the Jobcenter can fund its courses. So the program, also in English, can be fully funded if you are eligible.

English at B1 level meets the language requirement. Other conditions still exist:

• You have a registered residence in Germany.
• You are registered as a job seeker, or you are in the process of registering.
• You are not a university student. Students generally do not qualify.

One important thing you should know: the Bildungsgutschein is a discretionary decision, so in most cases, there is no legal claim to it. Your caseworker decides whether the training improves your chances on the job market. Good preparation helps, and the next section shows how.

How to get the Bildungsgutschein in Frankfurt, step by step

1. Register as a job seeker

You can register with the Agentur für Arbeit online, by phone (0800 4 555500) or in person. The Agentur für Arbeit Frankfurt am Main is at Fischerfeldstraße 10–12, 60311 Frankfurt.

If you receive Bürgergeld or Grundsicherung, the Jobcenter Frankfurt am Main is your first contact. Since 1 January 2025, the Agentur für Arbeit also pays for further training of people registered with the Jobcenter. Your caseworker explains how this works in your case.

The Jobcenter has seven sites. Your postcode decides which one is responsible for you:

• Jobcenter Frankfurt-Nord: Emil-von-Behring-Straße 10a, 60439. Postcodes: 60320, 60322, 60433, 60435, 60437, 60438, 60439.
• Jobcenter Frankfurt-Ost: Gerbermühlstraße 3–5, 60594. Postcodes: 60311, 60312, 60313, 60314, 60316, 60318, 60385, 60386, 60388, 60389.
• Jobcenter Frankfurt-Süd: Gerbermühlstraße 3–5, 60594. Postcodes: 60528, 60529, 60549, 60594, 60596, 60598, 60599.
• Jobcenter Frankfurt-West: Salvador-Allende-Straße 3, 60487. Postcodes: 60323, 60325, 60326, 60327, 60329, 60431, 60486, 60487, 60488, 60489.
• Jobcenter Frankfurt-Höchst: Bolongarostraße 82, 65929. Postcodes: 65929, 65931, 65933, 65934, 65936.
• Jobcenter Frankfurt-Mitte: Baseler Straße 35–37, 60329. Use the postcode tool on the Jobcenter website to check if it covers you.
• Jugendjobcenter Frankfurt: Gerbermühlstraße 3–5, 60594. For young people and young adults.

At the time of writing, several sites have shorter walk-in hours, and outside those hours you need an appointment. Many matters can be handled online at jobcenter.digital.

2. Apply to Cybersteps

The online application takes about 2 to 3 minutes. You then speak with an admissions advisor and do a 30-minute online assessment. Cybersteps prepares documents for your first meeting, including job postings that show the demand for cybersecurity staff.

3. Book your appointment

Ask the Agentur für Arbeit or the Jobcenter for a consultation about further training. Many appointments can be done online or by video call. Not every caseworker speaks English, so consider bringing someone who can translate.

4. Prepare what to say and bring

Bring your ID, your registration certificate (Anmeldebescheinigung), an updated CV, your certificates, proof of earlier jobs and your recent job applications. Add the course outline and the name of the provider you chose. Also bring the program details your caseworker needs, such as the Berufskennzahl and the Maßnahmennummer.

Explain in plain words why you want to work in cybersecurity and why this program improves your job chances. If your German is below B1, say so openly and explain that you plan to work in English. It might be a bit harder, but attaining Bildungsgutschein is still possible without German.

5. Wait for the decision

A decision can come right away or take a few weeks. A Bildungsgutschein is valid for three months. In that time you send it to Cybersteps, sign the training contract and start the course.

6. If your request is rejected

Ask for the reasons in writing. You can file an appeal (Widerspruch). The rejection letter states the deadline, so check it on the day it arrives. Add new evidence, such as more job postings or a clearer reason for your career change. Your Cybersteps advisor walks you through the process.

What you learn

The program has four modules. Each one ends with a certification, and exam vouchers and exam preparation are included.

• Foundations. Networks, Windows and Linux, Python, cryptography and web basics. You work in the terminal and with Wireshark from the start. The module ends with CompTIA Tech+.
• Attack and defence. You see how attackers get in through social engineering, web hacking and weak Windows, Linux and Active Directory systems. You then learn to spot attacks with SIEM tools and get a first look at governance, risk and compliance (GRC). The module ends with CompTIA Security+.
• Cloud and enterprise security. You secure Azure environments, automate setups with Terraform, monitor with Microsoft Sentinel, manage identities with Entra ID and protect Microsoft 365. Certifications: Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) plus AZ-104 or SC-200.
• Specialisation. You practise realistic attack and defence scenarios and study ISO/IEC 27001 and NIS2. You then pick a path, such as SOC, penetration testing, GRC or application security. The module ends with the IHK Cyber Security Advisor or PECB ISO/IEC 27001.
• AI in security. Weekly AI sessions show you how to use AI tools for coding, automation and analysis in everyday security work.
• Career training. CV and LinkedIn workshops, job search training and interview practice run alongside the technical modules.

Cybersecurity jobs and salaries in Frankfurt

Typical junior roles

• SOC analyst. You watch alerts from security tools, decide which ones are real threats and start the first investigation. Read more in our article on what a SOC analyst does.
• IT security administrator. You manage firewalls, access rights and endpoint protection and make sure security rules are followed.
• Junior penetration tester. You simulate attacks on systems, networks and applications with permission and report what needs fixing.

These organisations advertised cybersecurity jobs in Frankfurt in 2026:

• Deutsche Börse Group: exchange operator with security-related roles in English at its Frankfurt and Eschborn sites, for example in IT governance and ICT risk. It also advertised internships in information security.
• Da Vinci Engineering: Security Operation Engineer. In this role you will monitor vehicle cybersecurity per CSMS, lead incident resolution projects, and act as the customer’s single point of contact. The only language asked is fluency in English. 
• Eurex Clearing: CRIT Information Security Officer. Part of the Deutsche Börse Group, the ad asks for written and spoken English, with German an asset. 
• Cisco: This global technology and security leader hires early-in-career Associate Solutions Engineers for their Frankfurt (Eschborn) teams through a 12-month global accelerator program, focusing on AI-driven technical sales and solutions across Security, Cloud, and Networking. 

Meet people before you apply: The OWASP Frankfurt chapter holds free meetings every two to three months, mostly in person. You do not need to be a member. BSides Frankfurt is a community-run security conference at Goethe University Frankfurt, and its 2026 edition took place in September. Both are good places to meet people who work in security.

Why Cybersteps

FAQ

What English level do I need?

For Bildungsgutschein funding you need German or English at B1 level or higher. In class you follow live sessions, labs and written material in English, so you should feel comfortable learning in it. You do not need any IT or cybersecurity background. Basic computer skills are enough to start, because Module 1 builds the foundations from scratch.

Do I need German to work in cybersecurity in Frankfurt?

It depends on the employer. Some Frankfurt employers, such as Deutsche Börse Group, write their security ads in English. Most junior job ads we reviewed for Frankfurt were in German, though, and even some English ads ask for very good German. Treat German as a clear advantage and keep learning it. Your mentor and the career team help you find opportunities that match your language level.

Can I do the program part-time?

No. The program is full-time. Live classes, guided practice and review sessions follow a fixed daily schedule, so it does not work alongside a job or university studies. It is designed for people who can make it their main activity for the whole training period.

How long does it take?

The program takes 6 to 14 months, depending on the modules you choose. Looking for a cyber security bootcamp in Frankfurt? Bootcamps usually run 2 to 4 months. This program is longer, includes certifications and offers a 2-month internship after the full 12-month track.

What if I am not registered as unemployed yet?

Register as a job seeker first. In Frankfurt you do this at the Agentur für Arbeit or the Jobcenter, depending on your situation. You can apply to Cybersteps at the same time: an admissions advisor calls you, and we help you with the documents for your appointment. Funding only works once you are registered, and university students are generally not eligible.
